LEATHERHEAD SCHOOL DRAMATICS

For some years now the Senior Dramatic Club of the Leatherhead County Secondary School have given a public performance and this year's effort at the school proved that the club still lives up to the high standard which it has set for itself. The hall was filled on both evenings with appreciative audiences.

The programme consisted of two one act plays and the trial scene from the "Merchant of Venice". Those taking part in "The King's Messenger" were Diane Huddlestone, Judith Tyrrell, Anne Watson, Janet Read and Sylvia Upward.

In "Cream Of Tartar," by Mabel Constanduros and Howard Agg, the players were R. Smith, Kathleen Atkin, Marion Lovett and Doreen Andrews. The nine characters in the trial scene were portrayed by M. Coward, Anne Watson, Doreen Andrews, G. Horton, Julie Ford, Janet Freeman, Marion Lovett, Janet Read and Jillian Manser.

At the close of the production, Mr. S. A. Moore (Headmaster) expressed the appreciation of the audience for the excellent productions. He mentioned that the club had been working since September last fully expecting that they would be producing the plays at the new school in Dilston-road with its very large hall capable of accommodating some five hundred and on a stage which was the largest of any school in Surrey. Unfortunately, their hopes had not been realised but they hoped to move to the new school after Easter. After the second performance the pupils in the plays expressed their thanks to the producer, Mr. E. T. Biggs, and to Miss Owen, Miss Kew and Mr. E. Filter, and made presentations to each from the stage. Afterwards some films were shown and much interest was expressed by the parents. These films were of general interest and are such as are used in the school daily.
